Lava Café · Coffee Subscription

A subscription that arrives like a postcard from the roastery.

Why it tastes different

Roasted in-house Tuesday, on your doorstep Friday — never older than 72 hours.

Beans leave our volcanic-stone cellar in the Central Eastside Industrial District no more than seventy-two hours before they reach your kitchen counter. We roast on a 12kg Loring Smart Roaster, then cup every batch on the same day with one of our nine Q-Grader certified cuppers.

Every bag carries the farm it came from. Not a region, not a blend name — the actual farm, written in the same letterpress we have used since Ana and Mateo opened the original Portland café in March 2014. You will see Finca La Esperanza, Al-Mokha, Kayu Aro, Gedeb, Huehuetenango, and twelve other names each year, from fourteen direct-trade partners across Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, Sumatra, and Yemen.

Common Questions

Six questions people ask before they click start — answered plainly.

Can I pause or skip a delivery?

Yes — every tier can be paused, skipped, or have its next ship date pushed from your account dashboard. There is no penalty, no fee, and no minimum commitment. Most subscribers pause for a long weekend away or for the week between two favorite origins.

How does billing work?

You are billed the day your shipment leaves the roastery, not the day you sign up. Weekly, biweekly, and monthly cadences are billed on the same rhythm. Switch cadence at any time — the change applies to your next shipment.

How much is shipping?

Shipping is free on every subscription shipment to all 47 U.S. states we currently reach. There is no surcharge for rural ZIP codes, no fuel adjustment, and no minimum order size. Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories are quoted at carrier rate.

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?

Beans rest between 24 and 48 hours after roasting to let CO2 degas, then ship the same day. Most bags arrive 3 to 5 days post-roast. We print the exact roast date on every bag so you know exactly how old your beans are when the box opens.

Can I get my beans ground?

Yes. Choose whole bean or one of seven grind profiles at checkout — espresso, moka pot, V60, Chemex, AeroPress, French press, or cold brew. Roaster's Choice and Reserve subscribers can request a different grind for each bag in the same shipment.

Can I send this as a gift?

Reserve tier offers a gift-wrap option with a hand-written note from the roastery and a printed brew guide. For any tier, you can start a subscription in someone else's name at checkout — just enter their shipping address and a start date up to 90 days out.

One Last Thing

Begin tomorrow morning. Start your subscription and your first bag ships within five business days.

Pause it after any delivery. Cancel it after any delivery. We will still send you a free cupping invite the first Saturday of every month regardless.
