Our working roastery is open to the public six days a week. Free public cuppings run on the first Saturday of every month — over 6,800 guests since launch.

Four neighborhood cafés

Same roastery. Four distinct rooms.

Each café roasts from the same Central Eastside cellar but reads the neighborhood differently — Hawthorne's long wooden communal table, Pearl District's pour-over bar, Alberta Street's morning sun, and Capitol Hill's late-night study room.

Before you visit

Practical questions, answered plainly.

Is parking really free at the flagship roastery?

Yes. We validate up to 90 minutes in the Lava Café lot directly behind 1144 SE Stark — bring your ticket to the roastery bar before you leave. Street parking on Stark and surrounding blocks is also free outside posted hours.

Can I work on a laptop at any café for as long as I want?

Laptops are welcome at all four cafés during posted hours. Capitol Hill stays open until midnight on weekdays and is our quietest spot for long sessions. Hawthorne and Alberta are livelier in the morning rush; Pearl is best for client calls and short sprints. Wi-Fi is free across all locations — network and password are printed on every table card.

Are dogs allowed inside?

Leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome on the patios at Hawthorne, Alberta, and Pearl year-round, and inside all four cafés. Service animals are welcome everywhere at all times. Capitol Hill does not have a patio but does allow dogs inside until 4pm daily.

Can the public tour the roastery, and do you host private events?

The Central Eastside roastery is open to the public every day the roastery bar is open — walk in any time between 7am and 4pm. Free guided 30-minute tours run every Saturday at 11am and 2pm. Private cuppings, team breakfasts, and buyouts for the roastery bar or any café can be booked through our Private Events team — 12 to 80 guests.

Pick a location. Walk in to a seat waiting.

Reserve your table.

Every Lava Café holds a handful of seats aside each morning for guests who book ahead. Coffee in the cup, chair pulled out, the day's lot on the bar — ready when you arrive.
